Amazon Rewards Visa Review
On September 22, 2019 Citi, one of the largest credit card issuers, dropped their travel perks. Citi discontinued Worldwide Car Rental Insurance, Trip Cancellation Insurance, Travel Insurance, 90 day Return Protection, and Citi Price Rewind. Boo!
Amazon to the Rescue
In response, I selected the Amazon Rewards Visa as a replacement. Because I have an Amazon Prime account I have the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa which has a few extra perks.
Let’s review the perks of the Amazon Rewards Visa Perks. You can apply for this VISA card without a Prime membership. (See a future Blog Post on the advantages of an Amazon Prime account for you.)
Both the Amazon Prime and Amazon Rewards Visa have no annual membership fee.
You will receive retail cashback of 3% back at Amazon.com and Whole Foods. This jumps to 5% cash back if you have an eligible Amazon Prime membership. Then you receive 2% back at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores. You receive 1% back on all other purchases.
The Amazon Rewards Visa has no foreign transaction fee.

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver is an enormous benefit for you. When you pay with the Amazon Rewards Visa you may decline the expensive rental company’s collision insurance when you pay the rental car cost to your Amazon Rewards Visa. Coverage includes theft and collision damage in the U.S. and abroad. Keep in mind the coverage is secondary to your personal insurance.
Roadside Assistance-However, they will come to your rescue, but you handle the charges.
Extended Warranty Protection extends the time for the U.S. manufacturer’s warranty by an additional year, on eligible warranties of three years or less.
Purchase Protection covers your new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft up to $500 per claim and $50,000 per account.

If you are interested and a have a credit score >640, then you should apply. When approved, you will receive a $50 Amazon gift card. In addition, the points you earn can pay for items you purchase on Amazon in the future.
But, Ken, you say to avoid debt and credit card debt especially. You are right. Avoid holding a balance on your credit cards. Always pay them off monthly. Use the credit card for convenience, especially if you are traveling. If you are not responsible with credit cards now, then put this on hold until you have your budget, debt balances, and debt discipline in check. Then in the future look into the advantages and conveniences of using a feature and perk packed credit card.
